We’ve all stumbled across Facebook reels and videos that we instantly want to save and send to our friends. But is it actually possible to download a reel and send it via another platform to a friend?
While Facebook does not allow for direct reel downloads, it does invite users to save a reel to their private saved folder, send the reel directly to friends via a multitude of platforms, and share the link to their own profile.
Alternatively, users can access third party reel download sites which transform a link into a downloaded video that can be saved and used anywhere. However, it’s crucial that you don’t forget the importance of crediting original creators!
With that in mind, what if you are the original creator?
Can You Download Your Own Reels?
While you are not able to download reels created by other users, you can download the reels that you have created and save them on your device.
There are limitations to this – for example, if you use audio from Facebook, the downloaded version will be muted. Similarly, if you take a clip from another creator’s reel, the audio will be removed upon downloading the content.
However, if you are the creator of a reel, then you are able to download it onto your device.
How to Download Your Own Reels
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and navigate to your profile page
- Next to the ‘Posts’ and ‘Photos’ headers, select ‘Reels’
- Click on the reel that you want to download
- Select the button with the three dots and then opt to ‘Download Reel’
The reel should download and be saved directly in your device camera roll – ready to be sent and uploaded via your choice of other platforms. We hope this helps!
