If there’s one thing that all social media users will be able to relate to, it’s the irritation and frustration of your chosen app suffering from user glitches and issues.

All social platforms are subject to issues, with Meta which owns both Facebook and Instagram suffering a number of high profile issues over the years.

So, when Facebook suddenly stops working, is it likely to be an issue at Meta and Facebook HQ or could it be something to do with your own account?

An Issue at Facebook Hq

If your app suddenly stops working, and you have tried closing and reopening the app to no avail, then there’s a chance that something is going on at Facebook HQ.

Checking other apps for reports from other users is one of the quickest things you can do, or you can Google ‘Facebook not working’ to see any more formal news reports.

These issues will always iron themselves out eventually, meaning that a glitch in the system is likely something that you need to wait out.

A Feature Isn’t Available to You

There are some features that are exclusively available to a small portion of users, or that are limited geographically as part of a staggered rollout.

If, for example, there is a feature that you read about in one of our blogs, but you don’t seem able to access it or get it to work, it could be that you are accessing Facebook from a location that doesn’t have that feature fully activated yet.

You’ve Been Blocked From a Specific Action

If you’re trying to complete an action on Facebook but find your path blocked, it could be that you have been blocked from taking that step.

This could be a block from another user, preventing you from visiting their profile or commenting on their post, or it could be a block from Facebook. If you have been reported for violating community standards or have been known to post suspicious or abusive content, then you may find your activity on the platform is restricted for a set period of time.

You can request more information on this from the Help Centre of from Facebook itself.

Your Internet Is Poor

A classic cause of poor connectivity or the inability to perform a certain action on Facebook, is a lack of sufficient network coverage or internet. When you are trying to connect to Facebook with poor signal, you may find that details don’t load, or actions are not completed.

Though irritating, you will simply need to wait until you have better signal!

While these four reasons are all some of the most common causes of Facebook not working properly, there are some occasions where you might need more tailored support. The Facebook Help Centre is packed with advice and steps that you can take to overcome all manner of issues. Alternatively, users can always reach out to Facebook Help and Support, or Report a Problem to the app.
