With Facebook the most widely used social media platform in the world, and with most users boasting friends and connections which span their immediate circle, family and friends, acquaintances and beyond, there is no better platform to lean on when it comes to raising awareness for a specific cause.
While you can create a fundraising page on countless other charity and non-profit sites and simply share a link in your Facebook feed, more and more users are opting to host a fundraiser directly in the Facebook app.
Here’s how to do it…
5 Steps to Create a Fundraiser on Facebook
- In the Facebook app, click on the ‘What’s on Your Mind’ box at the top of the screen to create a new post / update
- Underneath the text box, scroll down the posting options until you find ‘Raise Money’
- Search for your charity in the search bar at the top of the list, then click on your chosen charity
- Add a caption, detailing your reason for raising funds for this charity and any personal experience you have or information about a fundraising activity you are doing
- Post your update as normal using the blue ‘Post’ button in the top right hand corner
Once posted, friends will be able to donate via your link with ease.
TOP TIP: Before posting your fundraiser, make sure that the visibility of the post is as widespread as possible, and that you enable sharing. This will maximise the number of users who see your fundraiser.
Other Methods of Fundraising on Facebook
While this is undoubtedly the easiest way to leverage Facebook as a fundraising tool, there are other things that you can do.
On your birthday, Facebook will invite you to ask friends to donate to a cause of your choosing in place of gifts.
Alternatively, you can share a link to any other giving page and use Facebook to draw attention to updates regarding a fundraising challenge or event you have created.
Or you can create a page that’s dedicated to a specific cause and use it to share updates and keep all activity relating to your chosen cause in one place.
We hope this helps and inspires you to use the power of Facebook to share your cause and encourage others to join you.
