With Facebook being such an integral platform for groups of friends and local communities, as well as those with shared interests and hobbies, the Events section of the platform is great for sharing details “en mass”.
By creating a Facebook event, hosts can quickly and easily share all the details of an upcoming even with their guest list, posting updates on a regular or as-needed basis. They can even set the event to public and allow anyone to view the details and register to attend or keep the event private and reserved solely for those who are invited.
Either way, Facebook events are a quick and easy way to share an invite with a set group of people, using a platform that they are likely already active on.
But what do you do when an event is cancelled?
3 Steps to Delete a Facebook Event
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your Facebook screen, then select ‘Events’ from the content blocks
- Click on ‘Your Events’ and find the event you want to delete
- Tap ‘Edit Event’ and then choose ‘Cancel’ or ‘Delete’.
Deleting the event will remove it, while cancelling it will share an update with all guests to let them know it’s cancelled – while keeping the event information on Facebook.
NOTE: Our advice is to put a post in the event saying that it is cancelled, to ensure that those who are registered to attend receive a notification and the information about the cancellation.
If the event suddenly disappears then there is no guarantee that they know it’s cancelled – however, if you share a cancellation update ahead of deleting the event, you can be sure that everyone will see and be aware of the change in plans.
We hope this helps. Facebook Events are a great way to keep guests up to date with changes, details, and of course cancellation. Hopefully you won’t need to cancel any event you organise – but if you do need to, it’s nice to know that the process of deleting the event is quick and easy.
