Are you spending too much time browsing Facebook and not enough time working, studying, or engaging in other hobbies and activities?

Well, we’re here to tell you that there are steps you can take to give yourself a break from Facebook – and they don’t involve deleting your account or locking your phone in a cupboard!

The Value of Deactivating Your Account

By far the easiest way to give Facebook a break is by temporarily deactivating your account.

Because this action is temporary, it allows you to take a step back from Facebook for a period of time – and also removes your profile from public and friends’ view, so that nobody sends you messages while your account is on pause.

This ensures that you don’t miss any important messages or updates, and lets people know that you are not currently active on the social platform. You may choose to pre-empt questions by letting friends know that you’re taking a break, or simply deactivate your account and hope that nobody notices.

It is worth noting at this stage that any pages you have sole ownership of will also be deactivated for the duration of your Facebook break – and that users will not be able to view or search for your page.

5 Steps to Deactivate Your Account

  1. Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen
  2. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then head into the Accounts Centre at the top of the menu
  3. Tap ‘Personal Details’ then ‘Account Ownership and Control’
  4. Select ‘Deactivation or Deletion’
  5. Choose the account that you want to deactivate and select ‘Deactivate Account’

You may need to follow a few extra instructions and steps to deactivate your account, with Facebook clearly identifying the difference between the deactivation and deletion processes available.

If and when you are then ready to reactivate your account, you can do so easily by simply logging back into your account.

NOTE: Before we go, one quick tip… Before you deactivate your account, make sure you know your up to date account log in information, to avoid issues with reactivation as and when you’re ready for your Facebook break to end.

We hope this helps!
