What do you do when you’ve shared a post on Facebook, only to find that some of the comments are inflammatory, causing arguments, or you simply want to switch off comments to avoid the notifications?

Once a post has been shared to your Facebook page, you could be forgiven for thinking there is nothing you can do besides deleting the post completely. However, Facebook makes it easy to turn commenting on and off with a dedicated menu for each post.

The Process to Turn off Comments

To turn off comments on a personal post, simply click on the three dots located in the top right hand corner of the post and select the ‘Turn Off Commenting’ button.

If you want to turn off comments on a group post, both group admins and the original poster have the power to do this, by selecting the three dots menu button on the post and choosing ‘Manage Comments’. The ‘Turn Off Commenting’ button will instantly prevent any new comments from being added.

Why Turn off Comments on a Facebook Post?

The reasons behind turning off comments on a Facebook post vary depending on the poster.

For some, the number of notifications they get from a post that goes viral becomes overwhelming. They can either choose to turn off comments or edit their notification settings.

In groups specifically, comments are often turned off on an announcement post or something that doesn’t require opinions.

And then there are cases where individual users turn off comments because of inappropriate responses or reactions.
