When you see a page that you find interesting on Facebook, there are a few different ways of supporting that page’s cause and engaging with it.
Most users choose to ‘Like’ the page and then keep an eye out for updates in their main Facebook feed, liking and commenting on individual posts as they see them. You can also follow a page which means keeping up to date with their content without liking it, or simply visit the page from time to time to see the updates.
But what happens when you ‘Like’ a Facebook page – and how do you remove your ‘Like’ when the page is no longer relevant or sharing updates that you find interesting?
What Happens When You Like a Facebook Page
Let’s first consider the action of liking a Facebook page and what it means to like a page.
When you ‘Like’ a Facebook page, the main thing you will notice is that updates from that page start appearing on your main Facebook feed. It could be posts from the page itself, or posts that are shared by other followers and users who have liked the page. Whatever it is, this content is pulled over into your main feed so that you can stay up to date with the information that’s shared.
You might also find you start receiving notifications about page updates and new posts – though these can be turned off or edited in your Settings.
Finally, liking a Facebook page shows support for that page and helps to increase its visibility and its reach. The more people like a Facebook page, the more people will then discover that page, as Facebook makes popular pages more visible to potential new members.
With all that said then, the reasons for choosing to unlike a Facebook page vary – sometimes because of a lack of interesting updates, and sometimes because the page no longer feels very relevant. Here’s how to do it…
3 Steps to Unlike a Facebook Page
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your Facebook screen
- Select the ‘Pages’ content block and then scroll along the carousel of buttons at the top of the screen until you see a button marked ‘Liked Pages’
- Find the pages that you want to unlike and simply click once on the ‘Liked’ button. This will immediately remove your like
Alternatively, you can navigate directly to the page that you want to unlike and unfollow, then click on the ‘Liked’ button on that page. This will remove your like and will remove any updates from that page on your feed.
And don’t forget, you can always go back and like the page at a later date if you miss the content!
We hope this helps!
