Your profile picture is a window to your Facebook profile. Not only does it help other users to recognise and identify your profile among others with the same or similar name, but it provides a visual indication of the kind of account you are managing.

For example, a private account will likely involve some kind of photo as the profile image. Meanwhile, a business account may have a logo or product image posing as the profile picture.

With the profile image such an integral part of your profile, you might be wondering why you would add a temporary one.

A temporary profile picture is often used as a response to a certain trend, occasion, incident, or milestone. Here’s how to create one…

5 Steps to Create a Temporary Profile Picture

  1. Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen
  2. Click on your name to navigate to your profile page
  3. Select your profile picture (the circular image) at the top of your profile feed, then click on ‘Select Profile Picture’
  4. Find the image you want to turn into your temporary profile picture, and click on it
  5. Underneath the preview, select ‘Make Temporary’ and then select the amount of time you want the profile picture to be active and visible for

The above process takes you through the steps to completely change up your profile picture – however, you can also add a frame to your existing image on a temporary basis. This option is typically used to follow specific trends and to respond to causes and incidents that are occurring in the world.

Again, frames and borders can be made temporary with users able to select the amount of time that the frame is visible for.

We hope this helps! Setting a temporary profile picture is a great way to play into and become a part of trends and causes, without having to remember to change your profile picture back when the trend is over. This process lets you determine the period of time your temporary picture is visible before, before automatically switching back.
