Most Facebook users are part of at least one or two Facebook groups.
From local community groups to interests and hobbies, groups are a way of creating a newsfeed that’s specific to a certain kind of interaction – from making plans with locals to sharing updates from your town, sports team, or children’s school.
The flexibility of Facebook groups means that these can be public or private and can be controlled and managed by moderators and group admin who have the ability to set rules and remove both comments and other users if they violate the terms of use.
In short, a Facebook Group is a section of Facebook that users can join to engage with likeminded people on specific, niche, local, or interest-driven topics.
So, what do you do when you want to create a brand new group?
5 Steps to Create a New Facebook Group
- In your Facebook app, click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen
- Find the white box that’s labelled ‘Groups’ and click on it
- Here you will see groups that are recommended for you to join based on your recent activity, as well as groups you are already a part of
- At the top of the Groups page, click on the plus icon in the black circle
- Select ‘Create a group’
You are now in the process of building your very own group!
The following pages will ask you for a group name and to select the ideal privacy settings for your group – Private or Public. Private groups will require permission for users to join, with admin able to add a few questions to determine the suitability of a user for a group. Public groups are open to all.
Once your group is complete and you have tailored the information according to your interests or motivation, you can start inviting other users to be a part of the group, can set other admin members and moderators, and can share your first post!
We hope this all helps! The benefits of groups are wide-ranging and can be great for specific and targeted engagement – and are well worth exploring.
