The beauty of Facebook is that it can hold an extraordinary amount of data and content on each profile, including all your previous posts, activities, interactions, and of course the photos you upload.
While countless users love the memories feature on Facebook that draws their attention to old photos on the anniversary of their original posting, for other users this reminds them of images they wish to remove. As such, the question around deleting photos on Facebook remains one of the most asked searches on and around the app.
3 Steps to Delete a Photo That You Uploaded
- Head to your profile and find the photo that you want to delete – either by scrolling through your posts until you find it, or by heading into your Photos menu and identifying it through your different albums and upload dates
- Open the photo to full screen
- Tap on the three dots in the top right hand corner and select ‘Delete’ from the pop up menu that appears
This will remove the photo permanently, as well as the caption, from both your profile and from the profile of anyone who was tagged in the photo.
Can You Delete Photos Uploaded by Other Users?
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that it is not possible to delete a photo that has been added by another user, even if it is a photo of you.
However, what you can do is remove a tag that connects the photo to you and to your profile – meaning it will no longer be visible on your profile or in your tagged photos on Facebook.
To do this you first need to find the photo, either by navigating straight to it via the poster’s profile or by heading into your own Photos section on your profile and opening the ‘Tagged Photos’ album. Once you’ve found the photo, open it to full screen mode and click on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the image. From the menu that appears, select ‘Remove Tag’.
NOTE: If the photo is one you have an issue with or require further action, you can also report the photo (though you will need to file a reason alongside your report).
As this article shows, deleting a photo that you posted yourself is easy – but removing a photo that someone else has uploaded is not quite as straightforward. Whatever your reason for wanting to delete or remove a photo from Facebook, if you didn’t post it then our advice is to talk to the friend who did and ask them to take it off the platform. If they don’t, then you can consider removing your tag and taking further action.
